Data Assurance (DA) - no more licensing requirements? (is it really FREE?)

Currently working with RS 15.7.1 SP203 and thought I'd check on the latest build (653) of DA to see what new features/fixes have been deployed.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this latest incarnation of DA does not appear to require a license.

1 - While the DA server log file says no license was found, it does not mention anything about a grace period/expiration date (like I used to see with earlier versions of DA).

2 - 'license' shows a permanent license (unlike earlier versions which would show an expiration date of install+30days):

========================

SMTP_HOST SMTP_PORT EMAIL_SENDER  EMAIL_RECIPIENTS EMAIL_SEVERITY

--------- --------- ------------- ---------------- --------------

smtp      25        Administrator Administrator    NONE

FEATURE            ISSUER VENDOR EDITION MAX CPU QUANTITY EXPIRE    VERSION

------------------ ------ ------ ------- ------- -------- --------- -------

REP_DATA_ASSURANCE               NULL    0       1        PERMANENT

========================

My client has contacted their sales rep who in turn has stated that DA does require a license.  Sales rep was unable to explain why the product doesn't go into grace mode soooooo ...

Anyone from SAP know if there's been a change in licensing requirements for DA (eg, a license is no longer required => product is free to use), or is this a bug feature of this current release (eg, there are some undocumented/hidden limitations for the 'free' version)?
